Job description
Within the Heinz Archive and Library I am responsible for the cataloguing, management and care of the portraits within the Reference Collection. Largely consisting of prints, this also includes portraits in other media such as drawings and medals. I also respond to enquiries from external researchers and supervise visitors to our Public Study Room. I contribute to the Gallery’s programme of temporary displays and exhibitions.
Biography
I graduated in History of Art from the University of East Anglia and joined the Gallery’s Picture Library in 1995 after working in a similar role at the Science Museum. I moved to the Heinz Archive & Library in 1997. I have curated temporary displays at the Gallery, including Changing Impressions: A Print Conservation Project in Focus, 2002, Portraits of Alphonse Legros, 2004; Nelson: Before and After Trafalgar, 2005; and Henry VIII Remembered, 2008. I am currently working on a major loan exhibition on the life of the 1st Duke of Wellington, to be held at the Gallery in 2015.
Research interests
My research interests include the history of prints and printmaking, portraits of military and naval personalities and the reception and interpretation of those portraits.
