The Art Fund

As the UK's largest art charity the Art Fund has helped hundreds of museums and galleries acquire nearly half a million works of art. Since its foundation in 1903, the Art Fund has helped the National Portrait Gallery acquire over 220 works of art including Julian Opie's paintings of Blur, Gwen John's self portrait, John Singer Sargent's portrait of Arthur James Balfour, Hans Eworth's portrait of Mary I and Nicholas Hilliard's miniature portrait of Sir Walter Ralegh. The Art Fund is a charity independent of government funding and raises its income through membership subscriptions, donations and legacies.
