The Jerwood Foundation was established in 1977 by John Michael Jerwood, originally making donations principally to education and music. More recently, the Foundation's role has extended to support talented young people in the arts, education and heritage, mainly between the ages of twenty and thirty-five. The Jerwood Foundation is dedicated to imaginative and responsible funding and sponsorship of the arts, education, design, conservation, medicine, engineering, science and other areas of human endeavour and excellence.
The Jerwood Foundation has supported the commission of three portraits of significant young achievers in the arts for the National Portrait Gallery:
Thomas Joseph Edmund Adès
by Phil Hale
Three Royal Court Theatre Directors (Katie Mitchell; Stephen Daldry; Ian Rickson)
by Justin Mortimer
by Darvish Fakhr
