Gilding
Process of decorating a surface with a thin layer of gold in the form of either gold leaf laid on a prepared ground, or powdered gold mixed with adhesive binder and painted on a surface. The term is sometimes used to refer to the application of other metals to a surface, such as silver or bronze. A surface that has been covered by gilding is said to be gilt or gilded.
