Gillray Caricatures: Parliament

Gillray's political satires include references to parliament. Parliamentary-reform, - or - opposition-rats, leaving the house they had undermined (D12614) shows opposition MPs as rats, led by Lord Grey and Charles James Fox, fleeing the House of Commons. Grey and Fox seceded from Parliament in 1797 after the defeat of Grey's motion for Reform. They were accused of a lack of patriotism, as war with France was ongoing.
