Camden Town Group
17 People in artist grouping:
Based in the North London studio of Walter Sickert, The Camden Town Group ran from 1911 to 1913. It was an exclusively male set (although female artists such as Ethel Sands were closely linked to the group) of 16 of the most promising artists of the day. Today they are known for their post-impressionist and realistic approach to everyday life in the London suburbs of pre-war Britain. The group only exhibited three times, always at the Carfax Gallery in the gentrified St James area of London, the antithesis of Camden's working class streets. The exclusive set, which was inspired by the Paris Art Salons and had its origins in the Allied Artists Association (AAA,1908) was short-lived, and was ultimately absorbed into the London Group.
