Pop artists
Preceded in Britain by The Independent Group (IG), Pop Art developed from the earlier works of the IG, which had taken the influences of Dada and Minimalism. The Pop artists created a new genre of art that represented modern popular mass culture by re-appropriating imagery from sources such as advertising and comic books. This genre celebrated the new age of technological mass production, the invasion of advertising into every facet of life through television and the rise of popular culture. In Britain, Pop Art was heavily influenced by the influx of American mass culture, and the artists reacted to what they perceived as the new American domestic dream.
