Lord Chancellors
The Lord Chancellor is a senior cabinet minister, appointed by the sovereign on recommendation from the Prime Minister. Once appointed, they are responsible for the efficient running and independence of the courts. The role of Lord Chancellor is one of the most established in government and can be traced as far back as the Norman Conquest. They head the Ministry of Justice as the Secretary of Sate for Justice and until the constitutional Reform Act of 2005, also acted as Speaker of the House of Lords and head of Judiciary.
