Sitter in 3 portraits
William Allingham was a poet. Born in Donegal, he spent much of his life there working as a customs official. His best-known work, Day and Night Songs, was illustrated by the Pre-Raphaelites with whom he was friendly. Allingham moved to London in 1870, where he became editor of Fraser's Magazine and established a close relationship with the ageing Carlyle.
