Singer of German Jewish origin, appeared at Covent Garden as a treble, 1787 and at Drury Lane as a tenor, 1794; with his fine declamatory voice established himself as one of the leading opera singers of the day; retired 1852, after a long, active successful career; wrote a number of operas and songs. Braham was an impressario, composer and tenor singer of immense popularity.
