Joseph Brotherton (1783-1857). Considered to be the founding father of Salford. Worked in his fathers cotton mill until he inherited it on his father's death. Minister in Bible Christian Church for 40 years. Salford's first MP. Campaigned for Parliamentary reform, free gardens, museums and libraries. Supported the provision of municipal cemeteries. Buried in Weaste Cemetery.
