Walter de la Mare

Poet, novelist and anthologist. De la Mare worked for the Anglo-American Oil Co. until in 1908 he turned to writing full-time. In all he wrote some 50 books including many for children. Imaginative, whimsical and sometimes grotesque, his writing often draws on the dream-world. Among his best-known works are The Listeners (1912), Peacock Pie (1913) and The Traveller (1946).
