Harold Laski

Unfit for active military service, Laski spent the years of the First World War teaching and writing in America. The works he published during this period established his reputation as a major political theorist at an unusually early age. In 1926 he was appointed Professor of Political Science at the London School of Economics, a position he held until his death. He was the best-known socialist intellectual of his era, and published more than twenty books as well as hundreds of chapters, tracts, and articles. Laski was a member of the Executive Committee of the socialist Fabian Society, and in 1936 he joined the Executive Committee of the Labour Party. He served as the 1945-6 Chairman of the Labour Party.
