Paul Nash

(1889-1946), Artist

Sitter in 32 portraits
Artist of 1 portrait
Painter and watercolourist. Nash's style was greatly influenced by serving with the Artists' Rifles during the First World War, and his name is particularly associated with war paintings such as We are Making a New World and The Menin Road. During the 1930s his abiding concern with landscape was modified by an interest in Surrealism, and he exhibited both found objects and paintings with Surrealist groups in 1936, 1937 and 1938.

Madeleine Dockar (née Daglish)

13 February 2020, 14:21

Good afternoon
Paul Nash painted the portrait of Alice Daglish in 1921. This picture was in our family until 2002 when it was sold by my Aunt. Alice Daglish was my grandmother. She gave birth to twin boys in 1925 - my father and my uncle. My grandfather (Eric Fitch Daglish was a lithograph student of Paul's) divorced my grandmother in 1933 and remarried a lady name Lena Rutland in 1934. In 1944 they have a daughter(Jennifer) and in 1954 they have a son named Stephen. Stephen and his half brother, my father, were in touch regularly over the years. Following a DNA test done 2 years ago it transpires that they are not related in any way. My belief is that Eric Daglish was not related to my father. I have a number of family photos to back up my theory but no proof - would you be interested to share my findings? My only interest is to know more about my family history. I look forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely Madeleine Dockar (née Daglish)
