From 1929-40 Sargent was conductor of the Courtauld-Sargent Concerts in London and from 1948-66 was chief conductor of the London Promenade Concerts where he had a large and devoted following; in addition he worked with the Hallé, Liverpool Philharmonic and BBC Symphony Orchestras and appeared extensively abroad.
