Thomas Seymour, Baron Seymour

(1509?-1549), Lord High Admiral; brother of 1st Duke of Somerset

Sitter in 6 portraits
Courtier and solider, Thomas Seymour was the brother of Jane Seymour, third wife of Henry VIII, and of Edward Seymour, Duke of Somerset and Lord Protector of the realm during the minority of Edward VI. Thomas courted Katherine Parr, who became the sixth wife of King Henry VIII, and married her secretly following Henry's death in 1547. Intensely ambitious, and jealous of his brother Edward, he embarked on a series of intrigues to further his cause, including a plan to marry Lady Jane Grey to King Edward VI, and himself to the 15 year old princess Elizabeth. Seymour was found guilty of treason in 1549 and beheaded.
