Suffering from asthma, Prince Augustus Frederick, was deemed too delicate to join the army or navy. He therefore travelled throughout the Continent, and in Rome in 1793, he secretly married Lady Augusta Murray. Despite attempts to 'legalise' their union, it was declared void.
