Mid-Georgian Portraits Catalogue Entry

Sitter associated with 5 portraits
Artist associated with 18 portraits
A portraitist and landscape painter, he took a keen interest in industrial and scientific developments, experimenting in lighting effects and candlelit subjects. Wright travelled to Italy with his family before attempting unsuccessfully to establish himself as a portraitist in Bath. Turning his back on the Royal Academy and fashionable London, he was undoubtedly the most talented painter of his generation working in the provinces.
