(1929-2018), Physician and middle distance runner; Olympian and first person to break the four minute mileSitter in 4 portraits
Athlete and physician; Competed in the 1500m at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. In 1954 he broke the '4 minute barrier', by running a mile in 3 minutes, 59.4 seconds. Consultant to the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London, and to St Mary's Hospital and Medical School, London'; Master, Pembroke College, Oxford (1985-93).
