Theatre director; co-founder of the amateur theatrical company, the Pilgrim Players (1907) which developed into the Birmingham Repertory Theatre (1913). His productions included The Immortal Hour (1921), Back to Methuselah (1923) and Hamlet in modern dress (1925).
