Sitter in 7 portraits
Ishbel MacDonald's mother Margaret MacDonald died in 1911. When her father became Prime Minister in 1924, he decided that Ishbel should take the role of his hostess at 10 Downing Street. This turned out to be a permanent role; she acted as his official hostess through his three terms of office and his years in opposition until he died in 1937.
