Susannah York

(1942-2011), Actor, writer and director

Sitter in 15 portraits
After training at RADA, York acted on stage before making her screen debut in 1960. Her notable films include Greengage Summer (1961), John Huston's Freud (1962) and Tony Richardson's Tom Jones (1963). In 1968 she appeared in the controversial film The Killing of Sister George (1968) playing opposite Beryl Reid and Coral Browne. Nominated for an Oscar for her performance in They Shoot Horses Don't They? (1969) and she won Best Actress prize at Cannes for her performance in Robert Altman's Images (1972).
