Surrealist painter, designer and stage designer. Banting studied at Westminster School of Art and later in Paris. He was briefly associated with the Bloomsbury Group but in 1930 began to absorb the influence of Surrealism after meeting Duchamp, Breton, Giacometti and Crevel in Paris. He exhibited at the International Surrealist Exhibitions in London and New York in 1936 and again in Paris in 1938.
