Ronald David Laing

Psychiatrist and psychoanalyst. R.D. Laing graduated as a psychoanalyst within the National Health Service in 1960. He worked at the Tavistock Clinic and Institute (1956-67) coming to prominence with the publication of The Divided Self (1960) and his theories of 'anti-psychiatry'. Laing was one of the founders of the Philadelphia Association whose unconventional treatment in communities such as Kingsley Hall (1965-70) acquired notoriety.
