Heinrich von Angeli was an Austrian painter, best known for his portraits. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, he spent the years 1856-62 studying, teaching and painting in Germany. On his return to Vienna he became a favoured portrait painter of the aristocracy and at European courts.
