Katerina Wilczynski

Katerina Wilczynski was born in Posnan and educated in Berlin. From 1916 she studied at the Leipzig Academy for Graphic Arts, the Berlin School for Arts and Crafts and the Academy of Fine Arts, Berlin. In the 1920s she worked in Germany as an illustrator. In 1930 she was awarded the Prix de Rome, and was established in Rome until she settled in London in 1939. She was authorised as an unofficial war artist to draw bombed churches in London. These works are now in the Imperial War Museum and the V&A. After the war she took up travelling, staying in Paris, Spain and Greece. A retrospective of her work was held at the New Art Centre, Chelsea in 1980.
