Pavel Tchelitchew was a Russian-born surrealist painter. He left Russia in 1920 and spent the years 1921 to 1923 in Berlin, where he had considerable success as a designer for the theatre and opera. Tchelitchew lived in Berlin from 1921 to 1923, and moved to Paris in 1923. Exhibiting at the Galerie Druet, he and his associates became known as the Neo-Romantics; he had his first one-man exhibition at the Claridge Gallery, London, in 1928. In 1934, Tchelitchew moved from Paris to New York City.
