I can't tell you anything! I am looking at the portraits attributed to Thomas Barber, a man associated mainly with Nottingham and Derby and mainly as a portrait painter (his dates 1771-1843). He exhibited a few times at the RA and is often portrayed as a follower of Thomas Lawrence. I see that there was a contemporary Thomas Barber mainly known as an engraver of landscape scenes, eg in context of a book of Isle of Wight illustrations which I read was published in 1834, though I don't see the publication date printed in the book (only from copies available online, so perhaps I missed something.) I am simply wondering if anyone has any evidence as to whether this was indeed two men or if they could possibly be one and the same. I have lots of information about the portrait painter and would be happy to share what I do know.
