Sally Soames

(1937-2019), Photographer

Sally Soames was born in London and lived there all her life. Her first assignment was for the Observer in 1963. She freelanced for the Guardian, The New York Times, Newsweek, the Observer and the Sunday Times, and various TV and film companies in the UK and the USA. Soames joined the staff of The Sunday Times in 1968 and remained there until 2000. Her work is held in various collections around the world. Her assignments included the photographs for Tony Blair for the 2001 general election. She was an external examiner and lecturer at The London College of Printing and The Royal College of Art.
