Artist of 2 portraits
Paul Benney is a self-taught artist and was born in London in 1959. He spent much of the 1980s in New York, exhibiting in the East Village. After five shows at the PPOW Gallery, New York, and the inclusion of his work in public and private collections, Benney returned to London to complete a series of portrait commissions of prominent British figures. Recently, a Channel 4 documentary examined his work, including his paintings of Jerry Hall and Mick Jagger. In 2001, the Mall Galleries in London hosted Benney's first retrospective of twenty years of his work, and published Just Looking, a monograph of his work.
