(1954-), Singer; Boomtown Rats and organiser of Band Aid, Live Aid and Sports Aid

Irish rock singer and leader of the group Boomtown Rats, well-known for songs such as I don't like Mondays; he achieved international acclaim (and a KBE, 1986) for organising Band Aid, with live concerts, which raised £60 million for famine relief in Ethiopia. He helped organise the historic recording of Do They Know it's Christmas? (1984) which was made with 35 other artists including Duran Duran and George Michael. He continues to campaign for monetary funds to help alleviate poverty in Africa and the cancelling of debt of developing countries.
