Sir Arthur Charles Clarke

Writer of science fiction; author of more than 80 books, including 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968, and co-author with Stanley Kubrick of the screenplay). Before turning to fiction writing Clarke worked in scientific research. He was a radar instructor during World War II and in 1945 he published plans for a hypothetical communications satellite. He was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 1994.
