Kazi Shahabudin

(1832-1900), Indian administrator and Prime Minister of Baroda

Son of Kazi Ibrahim. Shahabudin was educated at the Poona College of Engineering (Poona, India). He became Secretary to the Council of Regency at Bhuj Cutch and later Minister at Cutch, a position he resigned from. He was sent to England on behalf of the Rao of Cutch in 1869 where he served as Secretary of the East India Association in London for 3 years. He later took a post as Professor of Oriental Languages at University College, London. After his return to India he was head of the Revenue Department in Baroda from 1877-80. He succeeded Sir T. Madhav Rao to become Dewan, Prime Minister of Baroda, from 1882 until his retirement in 1886.
