This person was my great grandmother and married to Joseph Barkby, called 'Holy Joe' for his strong evangelical views; they lived in Southport. Maggie Barkby was the eldest daughter of Sir William Pickles Hartley, founder of Hartley's Jam. She had four children, including Bobby Barkby and Hartley Barkby (killed in 1916, in action in WWI); Hartley Barkby was due to take over the family jam-making business.
