Eldest son of Maharaja Duleep Singh and Maharani Bamba. Studied at Eton College and Trinity College, Cambridge. Due to laws at the time, children of Indian descent were disqualified by parentage from the army however his Godmother, Queen Victoria, granted special dispensation for her godson to join the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst (1887). He held various positions in the Army until he resigned from the Royal Dragoons in 1898 to marry the sister of his friend George, Lady Anne Blanche Alice, whom he first met when he studied at Cambridge. The couple had a lavish ceremony at St. Peter's, Eaton Square. Ordered not to leave Paris during the First World War he remained there until the war ended when he found old gambling habits resurfacing and would be seen in the gambling casino capital of Monte Carlo where he died shortly after. Buried at the Anglican Cemetery high up the hillside above Monte Carlo, a special service was carried out at St. Martin-in-the-Fields at Eton and Trinity College Cambridge.
