Army General, served in the Napoleonic and Crimean Wars. Son of Richard England, who served in the British Army during the American War of Independence and was one of the first colonists of Western Upper Canada.

This is not the Lieutenant-General Richard England who fought in the American War of Independence. He died in 1812, long before Roger Fenton took photographs. This is his son, also Richard - General Sir Richard England (1793-1883), who did serve during the Crimean War.
