Archaeologist and author; archaeological adviser to the Festival of Britain and theme convener for 'The People of Britain' pavilion, designed by James Gardner. Her first significant book, A Land, evoking Britain's evolutionary history, was written in the Festival year. She married, as her second husband, J. B. Priestley.
