Douglas Kirkland

(1934-2022), Photographer

Born in Toronto, Canada, Kirkland spent much of his early professional life working in New York, before relocating to Los Angeles in the mid-1970s. His career took off when he joined Look magazine in his early twenties, and later Life. Among his assignments were essays on Greece and Lebanon as well as fashion and celebrity work, including photographing Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor and Marlene Dietrich. Kirkland worked on the sets of over one hundred motion pictures, including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Out of Africa, and Titanic. His work was widely exhibited and published in several books.
