The prolific visual artist Ernst Neizvestny (1925-2016) was a key pioneering sculptor and figure who played a pivotal role in the radical changes that took place in 20th Century art history in the Soviet Union (now known as the Russian Federation). As fate had it, this artist, who had famously verbally clashed in a debate with outspoken Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev (1894-1971) at an exhibition of "Nonconformist" art, was later commissioned to create Khrushchev's memorial monument before leaving the USSR in 1976.
