Conservative MP for East Aberdeenshire (1924-58), lecturer, author, television personality. Boothby was parliamentary private secretary to Winston Churchill (1926-9) and parliamentary secretary, Ministry of Food (1940-1). A provocatively controversial figure, whose political and personal life often made tabloid headlines.
