Sitter in 1 portrait
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Adepitan contracted polio aged 15 months. His parents moved to the UK (1976) believing there were better opportunities for their disabled child there. He was inspired to take up wheelchair basketball after watching coverage of the 1984 Olympic and Paralympic Games. He won a bronze medal for Team GB in Athens (2004) and a gold medal at the inaugural Paralympic World Cup (2005). As a London 2012 Ambassador he represented Paralympic sport to the International Olympic Committee. Adepitan switched sport to tennis in 2007, competing at an elite level. A professional broadcaster, he has presented the London 2012 Paralympic Games for Channel 4 and the annual BBC's 'Children in Need' appeal. Awarded an MBE for services to disability sport in 2005.
