David Weir
(1979-), Wheelchair racer; ParalympianSitter in 2 portraits
David Weir was introduced to wheelchair racing at school and first competed in the London Mini Marathon aged eight. In 2018, Weir won a record eighth title at the London Marathon. Highlights of his professional career include winning double gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, triple gold at the 2011 World Championships and four gold medals at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Born with a spinal cord transection, Weir was frustrated by the lack of activities for wheelchair users. With his coach, Jenny Archer, he runs the Weir Archer Academy, which aims to increase participation in disability sport.
