Born 21 July 1900 - died 22 February 1991 - played first class cricket for Essex - but just one appearance before being dropped - Chairman of Amateur Football Association in 1971 and President of MCC 1970/71 - became a senior official in Bank of England which he joined in 1920 - left Bank of England to become Chairman of Bank of West Africa (later Standard Chartered Bank)
