(1960-), Sprinter; OlympianSitter in 8 portraits
Athlete; Christie is the only British man to win Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European 100 metres gold medals. At the 1988 Seoul Olympics, he was awarded silver when the Canadian runner, Ben Johnson, was disqualified for a doping offence. He also won silver in the men's 4 x 100m relay at the same games. Christie became the oldest Olympic 100-metres champion when he won gold at the Barcelona Games in 1992, aged thirty-two. When in semi-retirement Christie received a two-year suspension from athletics in 1997 for a doping offence, an allegation he strongly denies. Away from athletics, he has worked as a television presenter.
