Redgrave is the only British athlete to have won gold medals at five consecutive Olympic Games, including three as a coxless pair with race partner Sir Matthew Pinsent. His fifth Olympic win in Sydney in 2000 was in a coxless four with Pinsent, James Cracknell and Tim Foster. After retiring, Redgrave founded the Steve Redgrave Trust, which helps children achieve their full potential despite health or social deprivation. He was the ?rst athlete to join the London 2012 Olympic bid team and was appointed Government's 2012 Sports Legacy Champion in 2009. Redgrave was also selected to hand the Olympic torch to seven young athletes who lit the cauldron at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
