Rampling spent two years as a leading fashion model before a film and television career that began with Richard Lester's The Knack (1965). Other 1960s films included Rotten to the Core (1965), Georgy Girl (1966) and The Damned (1968). In the 1970s Rampling starred opposite Dirk Bogarde in The Night Porter (1974), and in the Raymond Chandler adaptation Farewell, My Lovely (1975). Rampling was nominated for an Oscar in François Ozon's Under the Sand (2000) and won the Best Actress award from the European Film Academy for Swimming Pool (2003). For her performance in 45 Years (2015) Rampling won a number of awards including the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the Berlin Film Festival.
