Italian-born jockey. Dettori is the son of a jockey, a great favourite with the crowds and a prolific winner. Became an apprentice at Newmarket in 1985 and Champion Apprentice in 1989. His most celebrated victories include winning all seven races at Ascot (1996), The Oaks (1994 and 1995), the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (1995 and 2001) and the Two Thousand Guineas (1999). Awarded an MBE in 2000. Published A Year in the Life of Frankie Dettori (1996).
