Dame Bridget Margaret Ogilvie

(1938-), Biologist

Biologist. Born in New South Wales she studied agricultural science before obtaining a PhD at Cambridge. She then worked in the Parasitological Division of the Institute for Medical Research in London, where she focused on the biology of intestinal parasites. She joined the Wellcome Trust in 1979 to co-ordinate the Tropical Medicine Programme and was the Trust's Director from 1991-8. In 1993 she was the only woman appointed to the Council of Science and Technology.
