Imtiaz Dharker

(1954-), Poet, artist and documentary film-maker

Born in Pakistan and brought up in Glasgow, Imtiaz Dharkar is a British poet, artist and documentary film-maker. She divides her time between her homes in London and Mumbai where she works. As an artist she has had solo exhibitions in the UK, India and Hong Kong. She is the author of six poetry collections: Purdah and other poems (1988), Postcards from god (1997), I speak for the devil (2001), The terrorist at my table (2006), Leaving Fingerprints (2009) and Over the Moon (2014). She was awarded the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry in 2014, is a recipient of the Cholmondley Award and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. Her poems are on the British GCSE and A Level English syllabus.
