Sitter in 1 portrait
Dubbed the “Queen of Violinists”, Polish-born Haendel made her London debut in 1937 in the first of 68 appearances at the BBC Proms. She played for British and American troops throughout the Second World War and in 1973 was the first Western soloist to be invited to China following the Cultural Revolution.
